Shop Norway SpruceNorway Spruce
The classic real tree with a strong pine scent. Needle drop is faster than the Nordmann Fir, so keep it watered from day one. Strong branches hold heavy decorations well. A proper traditional look at a lower price.

Caring For Your Reading Christmas Tree
Cut about an inch off the base before putting the tree in its stand. This reopens the vessels that sealed during transport and lets the tree drink. Fill the stand with water on day one and top it up every day.
A tree in a warm room drinks about a litre a day. Keep the tree away from radiators and direct sun. Heat dries a tree out fast. The slower it dries, the less needle drop you will see.
A freshly cut tree kept well can last six weeks. Most go up in late November or early December. If yours goes up on the 1st of December, it should still look good on Christmas Day and into the New Year if you keep the water topped up.
The Norway Spruce needs more water than the Nordmann Fir. If the base runs dry even for a day, the tree seals over and needle drop speeds up fast. Check the stand every morning. Keep it watered and it will last through the whole of Christmas.
A real Christmas tree is good for the environment. It captures CO2 after you bring it home and adds to your holiday décor in a way that a plastic tree cannot match. We source from British growers with sustainable plantations. Every tree goes through a ten-year growing cycle. After harvest, we plant a new sapling in its place. Buying a real tree is the right call for the environment and the festive season.
Reading Borough Council collects real Christmas trees in early January. Check the council website for your collection week. Remove all decorations first. Real trees can also go in a home compost bin if you have garden space. They break down fast and return nutrients to the soil.
Reading at Christmas
Reading is a large town on the Thames in Berkshire. The Oracle shopping centre anchors the town centre, the Hexagon theatre runs through the winter season, and the River Kennet and the river walks are pleasant on a December afternoon. The town is one of the busiest commuter hubs outside London and the centre comes alive in December with Christmas lights along Broad Street and into the Oracle.
Reading's loved ones know the town best in December. The market, the lights, the Hexagon pantomime. A real Christmas tree in the window is part of what makes the holiday season feel right. Good Elf has been delivering beautiful Christmas trees to Reading homes since 2004 and knows the area well.
Reading Christmas Market
The Christmas market runs through the Oracle area and Broad Street in December. Local traders, food stalls and seasonal goods. The lights go on in November with an event in the town centre. Check the council website for dates and the market schedule.
The Hexagon at Christmas
The Hexagon theatre runs its Christmas programme through November and December. Pantomimes and seasonal shows. Popular with families. Book early, the good dates sell out. The theatre is in the town centre and easy to reach from across the RG postcodes.
