Caring For Your Christmas Tree

Cut about an inch off the base before placing the tree in tree stands. This reopens the vessels that sealed during transport and lets the tree drink.

Fill the stand with water on day one and top it up every day. A tree in a warm room drinks about a litre a day.

Keep the tree away from heat sources, radiators and direct sun. Heat dries a tree out fast. The slower it dries, the less needle drop you will see.

A freshly cut tree in good shape and kept well can last six weeks. If yours goes up on the 1st of December, it should still look good on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve and into the New Year.

The Norway Spruce needs more water than the Nordmann Fir. If the base runs dry even for a day, the tree seals over and needle drop speeds up fast. Check the stand every morning.
